EcoDesign best practice club
The Club trains and supports medical device manufacturers to use web-based process and procedures for EcoDesign and Product Stewardship based on the International Standard IEC 60601-1-9. Logging into www.medical-ecodesign.com becomes an integral part of the company’s New Product Development process. The process and procedures enable member companies to:
- Identify and manage compliance with product environmental regulatory requirements (RoHS, WEEE, REACH, EuP, Batteries, Packaging etc)
- Carry out an initial product review and set high-level EcoDesign targets for environmental cost savings
- Assess the product’s life cycle EcoDesign aspects and set detailed targets for environmental cost savings
- Carry out an safety and performance risk assessment of the targets using ISO 14971
- Gather information from suppliers to input into the detailed design process
- Verify compliance with the product environmental regulator requirements and performance against EcoDesign targets
- Prepare environmental information for customers
- Prepare recycling instructions
Structured training workshops and webinars
The Club provides structured training workshops and webinars to:
- Guide member companies through practical implementation of the web-based EcoDesign and Product Stewardship process and procedures
- Explain practical requirements for compliance with product environmental legislation.
- Provide EcoDesign guidance and information tailored to support each stage in the New Product Design process, including materials selection, mechanical design, electronic and electrical design, packaging design and design for recycling.
Once the training is completed the web-based system issues e-mail alerts to signpost members to new or updated items on the web database. For example, that a new webinar or guidance note has been produced to explain a new item of product environmental legislation, new EcoDesign technique, additional information on selecting greener materials, etc, etc. Logging into the web database ensures that members can keep abreast with all the latest product environmental regulatory and EcoDesign developments.
